Most permanent and portable campuses use a video router to route sources and destinations. While this adds complexity to the cabling path, it provides a quick and simple way to repatch and change sources and destinations. Being able to quickly reroute a single path allows for less overall cable runs and equipment because we can reuse or repurpose certain paths when we need.
All inputs and outputs first hit the video router before being sent to any other video device, such as the video switcher.
One of the ways we use this at a portable campus is by rerouting the live feed video feed to a DataVideo TLM-102 display monitor. We use a Stream Deck to allow for quick rerouting of sources. Without a video router, any source we wanted to test would have to be manually run to the display monitor, or would have to be manually switched using a video switcher, which would introduce its own set of challenges.
Highlands, almost exclusively, uses the AJA Kumo video routers. Generally, we get video routers that have at least 20% open inputs and outputs to have room for additional future devices.
