This article part of the portable campus setup series and is designed primarily for portable campuses.
High Voltage Warning
Please throughly read each section before attempting to connect power, as you will be connecting high voltage cables.
Connecting
- Make sure the breaker at the switch and all breakers on the distro are off.
- Run feeder to the distro and make connections here first.
- Make feeder (cam-lock) connections at the distro. Begin with green, then white, then red, blue and black. Make sure to get at least ¼ turn to the right on the cams for a good connection.
- If using the pass through on the distro, make these connections before sending power to the distro. It is a good practice to make the pass-through connections first since they are usually below the power in connections on the distro.
- Run feeder to the switch and make connections with the feeder in the same order as at the distro.
- Bottom row is for passthrough power and top is for power from company switch.
- Make sure everyone is clear before sending power from the switch and throw the breaker.
- Verify that the distro is getting the proper voltage before switching the main breaker on then turn on individual breakers as needed.
Disconnecting
When services are complete and need for power is over:
- Turn individual breakers off on the distro.
- Turn off the main breaker.
- Turn off the breaker on the company switch off.
- Remove the cables in the reverse order. Start with the red, blue and black, then white and finish with the green.
Connecting
- Begin with all power off on the generator and verify all breakers on the distro are off.
- Run cables inside to the power distro and make connections here first.
- Feeder/Cam-lock Campus Begin making connections with green, then white, then black, blue and red. These last 3 colors can be connected in any order. Typically follow the next color on the distro after the white. Make sure to get at least ¼ turn out of the cams to ensure a good connection.
- Twist-lock Campus Make the connection and twist to the right until locked and verify it is secure.
- Feeder/Cam-lock Campus Begin making connections with green, then white, then black, blue and red. These last 3 colors can be connected in any order. Typically follow the next color on the distro after the white. Make sure to get at least ¼ turn out of the cams to ensure a good connection.
- If using the pass through on the distro for external power, install the cam-locks in the proper order before sending power to the distro. It is a good practice to make the pass -through connections first since they are usually below the power in connections on the distro. This way there is no interference and easier access.
- Verify all inside connections are made and secure before going out to the generator to tie in. Top row is for passthrough to external power and top row is for power in from generator.

- Verify the generator voltage output is set correctly before cranking.
- Crank the generator and run it to high RPM to send power.
- Verify all the gauges are reading within specs.
- Make sure everyone is clear before sending power to the distro.
- Flip the breaker and send power to the distro.
- Make sure the distro is getting the proper voltage before turning any breakers on.
- Turn on main breaker then individual breakers as needed.
Disconnecting
When services are complete and need for power is over:
- Power the individual breakers off.
- Power off the main breaker on the distro.
- Next, go to the generator to switch the breaker off.
- After this, bring the generator back to idle RPM and then turn it off.
- Remove all the cables in the reverse order. On the feeder, start with blue, black or red and then white and end with green.
